Job Title

Principal Loadstore CPU Design Engineer

Role Summary

Senior CPU microarchitecture designer focused on LoadStore/memory-system features within Arm's CPU Design team. The role contributes to defining and delivering next-generation Cortex-X and Neoverse microarchitectures, collaborating with architecture, performance modeling, validation, and implementation teams.

This position is based in Austin (primary) with an option for Raleigh and operates in a hybrid working model.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires substantial prior experience; posting specifies 10+ years of CPU/system microarchitecture development experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include microarchitecture definition, cross-team collaboration, and technical leadership.

  • Define and design next-generation CPU microarchitectures for performance, power, and area efficiency focused on Cortex-X and Neoverse products.
  • Evaluate and prototype IPC and architectural features for adoption into microarchitecture designs.
  • Drive invention and specification of domain-specific features in the LoadStore/memory subsystem (e.g., TLBs, caches, hazard checking, speculative execution, coherency protocols).
  • Partner with performance modeling, validation, and implementation teams to integrate innovations and meet schedules.
  • Present and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including partners and customers.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to less-experienced engineers; contribute to improving team methodologies and tools.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills; preferred items listed separately.

  • 10+ years of experience in CPU/system microarchitecture development, with proven expertise in high-performance CPU microarchitecture.
  • Deep domain expertise in LoadStore/memory system design: TLB, cache design, hazard checking, speculative execution, coherency protocols, and related logic areas.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills across complex systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; experience working across architecture, validation, and implementation teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Demonstrated track record of taking microarchitectural innovations from concept through implementation; experience interacting directly with customers or partners; evidence of continuous learning and process improvement.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
