Principal Layout Engineer

Role Summary

Lead analog layout efforts and perform hands-on block-level and top-level analog/mixed-signal layouts for custom analog-on-top and digital-on-top IC projects. Work across circuit design, physical design, IO, ESD, package, test, and PDK teams to deliver mixed-signal products for automotive and consumer applications from concept through tapeout.

Responsible for technical leadership, schedule delivery, layout methodology improvements, and automation. Estimated gross annual base salary range in Italy: 22261,000 u2013 â22¨,900.

Senior - typically requires 10+ years of custom analog/mixed-signal layout experience in deep sub-micron CMOS.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include layout leadership, integration, and hands-on design:

• Develop and lead block-level and top-level analog/mixed-signal layouts.
• Drive floorplanning, power routing, ESD implementation, and chip integration.
• Run and debug DRC, LVS, ERC, and extraction flows.
• Collaborate with design, digital P&R, IO, ESD, package, test, and PDK teams.
• Provide layout schedules, technical leadership, and communicate with customers/stakeholders.
• Identify layout risks and drive resolution of design and PDK issues.
• Improve layout methodologies and develop layout automation.

Requirements

Key technical and leadership requirements. Items listed as "nice-to-have" are optional.

• 10+ years of custom analog/mixed-signal layout experience in deep sub-micron CMOS.
• Expert with Cadence Virtuoso XL, floorplanning, constraint-driven layout methodologies, and PVS DRC/LVS/ERC flows.
• Strong knowledge of matching, common-centroid placement, shielding, EM/IR, high-speed routing, parasitics, and DFM best practices.
• Proven experience leading analog-on-top and digital-on-top chip layouts, including multiple voltage domains, power distribution, and ESD strategies.
• Familiarity with PLLs, oscillators, ADCs, DACs, LDOs, bandgaps, and high-speed interface circuits.
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated cross-functional leadership.
• Nice-to-have: SKILL or Perl scripting for layout automation.
• Fluent in English.

Education Requirements

BSEE or MSEE (Electrical Engineering).
