Job Title
Principal IC Layout Engineer
Role Summary
Lead physical-design efforts for high-speed, high-performance analog, mixed-signal, and digital integrated circuits and subsystems within the Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) organization. Serve as a technical authority on layout, drive methodology and automation improvements, and mentor layout engineers across projects.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve design integration and tapeout readiness. Role may require travel (~10%).
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typically requires 10+ years of full-custom IC layout experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead physical design for analog, mixed-signal, and digital products and subsystems (e.g., ADCs, DACs, PLLs, transceivers).
- Architect and implement floorplans at block, subsystem, and full-chip levels for large, complex designs.
- Develop and integrate complex chips and subsystems in advanced CMOS FinFET technologies (16nm and below).
- Collaborate with DFT, clock/timing, power-integrity, RTL, packaging, and analog teams to ensure seamless integration and design closure.
- Define, implement, and improve design methodologies, best practices, and automation workflows; promote knowledge sharing.
- Lead physical verification activities including DRC, LVS, ERC, density checks, extraction, EM/IR analysis, and final signoff for tapeout.
- Develop project schedules, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality milestones.
- Mentor and lead layout teams to foster technical growth and ensure project success.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Recognized technical authority in IC layout with broad influence across the organization.
- Industry-leading expertise in IC layout, architecture design, and process optimization.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills; proven ability to drive cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso and strong VXL expertise.
- Deep practical understanding of LVS, DRC, antenna checks, and verification/debug methodologies.
- Experience working on high-speed/high-performance designs and advanced FinFET nodes (16nm and below).
Nice-to-have:
- Direct experience on ADC/DAC, PLL, transceiver, or receiver layouts for production systems.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. The posting also indicates a typical background of 10+ years of full-custom IC layout experience.
