Principal IC Design Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the ASIC Product Division SOC team responsible for designing high-performance DRAM interface logic and supporting SoC design, validation, and IP release activities. The role focuses on implementation, timing, and cross-functional coordination to deliver memory interfaces for Broadcom SOC products.

Experience Level

Senior — expects experienced engineers (see Education Requirements for years-of-experience guidance).

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include DRAM interface design, analysis, and leading cross-functional delivery.

• Design and implement DRAM interface logic.
• Perform detailed design analysis using industry tools to ensure quality and timing closure.
• Lead and coordinate teams supporting simulation, synthesis, formal verification, constraints, and validation.
• Collaborate with internal and external teams, and with customers, to integrate memory interfaces into SOCs.
• Work with layout engineers to optimize area and performance.
• Define DRAM system timing budget goals aligned to product requirements.
• Produce design specifications and collateral to support IP release.

Requirements

Must-have skills and constraints relevant to the role.

• Proven experience with high-performance DRAM interface design and SOC memory integration.
• Expertise in HDL languages: Verilog, VHDL, and SystemVerilog.
• Strong understanding of physical implementation, timing closure, and process variation.
• Knowledge of signal integrity and related design impacts.
• Ability to analyze complex trade-offs and make data-driven decisions.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; experience with cloud-based documentation.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with simulation and synthesis flows, formal verification, and constraint definition.
• Prior experience defining system timing budgets and supporting IP release processes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Engineering (EE, CE, or CS preferred) with 12+ years of related experience, OR Master of Engineering with 10+ years of related experience.
