Principal Hardware System Engineer
Role Summary
Principal Hardware System Engineer in the Network Technologies Solutions Group (NTSG) responsible for hardware bring-up, debug, validation and lifecycle support of products containing next‑generation Ethernet switch, PCIe, DDR and high‑speed Ethernet subsystems. The role works across engineering, manufacturing, quality and field service to ensure product reliability and performance.

Responsibilities
The role focuses on hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, design improvements and cross-functional communication to maintain and improve product quality and manufacturability.
- Lead bring-up and support of refreshed hardware systems involving next‑gen Ethernet switch, PCIe, memory, and high‑speed Ethernet subsystems.
- Perform hands-on debug and root-cause analysis down to component isolation; implement corrective actions and repairs.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, field service, suppliers and vendors to resolve hardware issues and escalations.
- Identify hardware improvement and cost-reduction opportunities; support design changes and component second‑source validation.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate hardware changes and ensure product reliability.
- Maintain and update technical documentation and coordinate knowledge transfer.
- Communicate technical status, risks and decisions to stakeholders including product management and non‑technical audiences.
Requirements

- Must-have: Extensive hands-on experience with PCIe Gen5+ platforms, DDR4/DDR5 memory subsystems, and 100G+ Ethernet hardware.
- Must-have: Proven ability to perform component‑level troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, repair and replacement.
- Must-have: Strong knowledge of circuit design, PCB design and system integration.
- Must-have: Experience with hardware development tools (CAD such as Altium or Cadence; simulation tools such as SPICE) and scripting (e.g., Python) for test/automation.
- Must-have: Familiarity with hardware testing, validation, debugging and verification techniques.
- Must-have: Strong communication, cross-functional collaboration, problem-solving and project prioritization skills.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with FPGA, CPLD, ASIC or high-speed digital design.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with configuration management tools such as Git or SVN.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field is required. Master's degree or higher is preferred.
