Job Title

Principal Hardware Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join Marvell's Platform Engineering team to design, implement, and bring up complex high-speed boards, switches, and optics for next-generation networking and platform solutions. The role interfaces with circuit design, packaging, signal and power integrity, and validation teams to deliver deployable board- and switch-level products.

The position is hands-on and cross-functional, providing board design leadership, lab bring-up support, and coordination with vendors and manufacturing to meet performance, quality, and schedule targets.

Experience Level

Senior - the posting specifies ~10–15 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 5–10 years with a Master's or PhD.

Responsibilities

Accountable for end-to-end board and platform hardware delivery and technical leadership.

  • Lead design and development of complex high-speed PCBs, switches, and optics-based platforms.
  • Own schematic capture, PCB layout oversight, and board bring-up activities to meet product requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate board builds, component procurement, vendor/ODM/CM engagement, and manufacturing handoff.
  • Drive system-level decisions on power, thermal, SI/PI, and reliability with SI/PI and packaging teams.
  • Lead and mentor hardware engineers and technicians to deliver boards on schedule and to quality targets.
  • Perform hands-on lab debug and bring-up using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related equipment.
  • Review customer and FAE designs, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify design risks across the platform stack, develop mitigations, and escalate as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience (education details are listed under Education Requirements below).

  • Proven experience with high-speed, high-density PCB design including high-speed serial and memory interfaces (DDR3/4/5, PCIe Gen3/4/5, SATA3, SPI, I2C).
  • Experience with high-speed routing techniques (including PAM4, DDR5, PCIe Gen5) and stack-up optimization for larger board formats and higher layer counts.
  • Familiarity with Cadence Allegro/OrCAD schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
  • Working knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity concepts: decoupling strategies, AC impedance targets, crosstalk, insertion loss, and return loss.
  • Hands-on measurement and debug experience with advanced test equipment (sampling/real-time oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
  • Practical knowledge of power supply design and hands-on measurement experience.
  • Understanding of mechanical and thermal considerations for high-density layouts.
  • Proven track record leading small design teams and delivering products from concept to production.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills; ability to work across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to engage with PCB vendors, ODMs, and contract manufacturers to ensure manufacturability and quality.
  • May require eligibility for access to export-controlled technology and possible export license review.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with optics integration on networking platforms.
  • Prior work on large switch platforms or networking products for AI/communications markets.

Education Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (with ~10–15 years' relevant experience). A Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is acceptable with ~5–10 years' experience. The posting specifies degree-based experience bands; no specific certifications were required and no explicit "or equivalent experience" clause was stated.
