Job Title
Principal FPGA/ASIC Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the design, implementation, and verification of verification environments and testbenches for high-performance digital ASICs and FPGAs in support of mission systems. Work within the Microelectronics Technology team at Collins Aerospace to deliver signal processing and information assurance capabilities.
This is an onsite role based in Fort Wayne, IN, supporting classified U.S. government programs; an active, transferable DoD Secret clearance is required on day one.
Experience Level
Senior β Principal-level engineer. Typical experience expectation: 8+ years relevant experience, or an advanced degree plus 5+ years relevant experience.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on architecture and execution of RTL verification for ASIC/FPGA projects.
- Architect and implement verification environments using SystemVerilog and OVM/UVM methodologies.
- Develop written test plans, testcases, and track code and functional coverage.
- Create and execute testbenches for RTL blocks using VHDL and/or SystemVerilog.
- Apply constrained-random testing, functional coverage analysis, and assertion-based verification.
- Recommend verification tools and process improvements for the ASIC/FPGA flow.
- Provide technical leadership: plan work, break down tasks, mentor junior engineers, and report status.
- Contribute to engineering estimates for program pursuits and support lab validation when required.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security, and experience for immediate contribution.
- Active, transferable U.S. government DoD Secret clearance required prior to start; U.S. citizenship required.
- Demonstrated professional experience developing and simulating RTL designs using VHDL and/or Verilog; at least 4+ years in a professional FPGA or ASIC environment.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and execute verification testbenches using SystemVerilog; 4+ years applying chip-level verification methodologies.
- Experience with constrained-random testing, functional coverage, and assertion-based verification (SystemVerilog).
- Experience using revision control systems such as Git or Subversion.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in simulation and lab environments.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with ASIC/FPGA lab validation and industry lab equipment; familiarity with DFT and production test concepts.
- Proficiency with Unix/Linux and scripting or software development (C/C++, Python, Perl, shell).
- Familiarity with industry tools such as QuestaSim, Synplify, Quartus, or Vivado.
- Experience mentoring teams and recommending verification workflows and automation.
Education Requirements
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience. Specific degree discipline: Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
