Principal Field Applications Engineer – Processor IP, Software, and Custom Silicon
Role Summary
Customer-facing technical individual contributor supporting design wins with Industrial, Automotive, and IDM customers across North America. Responsible for technical engagement, processor IP and software enablement, and driving custom silicon opportunities.
Works closely with sales, business development, product and engineering teams to translate customer requirements into adopted solutions.
Experience Level
Senior level. Requires 10+ years of experience in Field/Application Engineering, Applications Engineering, Design Engineering, or equivalent roles.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include direct customer support, enabling design wins, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Serve as primary technical interface for customers during pre-sales and early development phases.
- Deliver presentations, architectural reviews, demonstrations, and workshops to customer engineering teams.
- Support evaluation and adoption of processor IP, software toolchains, and custom silicon solutions.
- Drive design-in activities and provide technical support to convert evaluations into design wins (CPU IP licensing, custom silicon, software solutions).
- Provide system-level guidance for performance, power, cost, and functional-safety-aware designs.
- Collaborate with Business Development and sales to provide technical input to RFIs and proposals.
- Engage with ecosystem partners (software, EDA, design services) and represent solutions at customer and industry events.
- Operate independently in a field-based role and maintain safe work practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed as nice-to-have.
- 10+ years in Field Application Engineering, Applications Engineering, or Design Engineering supporting customer engagements and design wins.
- Experience in semiconductor IP, SoC/ASIC development, or embedded systems within Industrial, Automotive, or IDM markets.
- Proven track record of supporting customer engagements and securing design wins.
- Strong understanding of electronic architectures (MCUs, SoCs, domain/zonal controllers) and system-level integration.
- Familiarity with processor architectures, embedded software development (compilers, SDKs, OS), and system integration.
- Strong customer-facing communication, problem-solving skills, and hands-on debugging capability.
- Ability to operate independently in a field-based role and bridge technical depth with customer business needs.
- Fluent in English.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline (or similar). Equivalent practical experience in relevant engineering or field-application roles is acceptable.
