Principal Field Applications Engineer - Memory Characterization
SynopsysJob Title
Principal Field Applications Engineer - Memory Characterization
Role Summary
Principal-level applications engineer responsible for deploying and supporting memory characterization and library-generation solutions for semiconductor customers. Works with field teams, R&D, and product management to validate, optimize, and scale characterization flows.
Primary mission: enable production-ready memory characterization flows, resolve escalations, and drive customer adoption of Synopsys memory characterization products and methodologies.
Experience Level
Senior / Principal level. The posting indicates a principal role; explicit years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership for customer deployments and ensure production readiness of memory characterization flows.
- Act as primary technical interface for strategic semiconductor customers during evaluations, proofs-of-concept, and production rollouts.
- Lead customer benchmarks, deployments, escalations, and technical workshops or training.
- Collaborate with customer memory design, characterization, CAD, methodology, and library teams to define requirements and resolve issues.
- Debug and resolve characterization, simulation convergence, modeling, and library-quality problems.
- Drive validation and correlation for timing, power, leakage, and variation-aware models.
- Support characterization of SRAMs, register files, ROMs, embedded memories, custom macros, and memory compilers across advanced nodes.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts with Applications Engineering, R&D, and Product Management; reproduce customer issues and influence product enhancements.
- Develop best practices, reference methodologies, and technical collateral to improve deployment quality and scalability.
- Travel as needed to support key customer engagements and deployments.
Requirements
Core technical skills and customer-facing experience required; separated into must-have and nice-to-have.
- Must-have: Deep hands-on experience in memory design and characterization with production deployments for semiconductor customers.
- Must-have: Experience with at least one memory characterization tool (e.g., PrimeLib, LiberateMX, SiliconSmart, Solido, or equivalent).
- Must-have: Practical experience with circuit simulation and signoff tools such as HSPICE, PrimeSim XA, CustomSim, Spectre, NanoTime, or equivalent.
- Must-have: Knowledge of advanced modeling and library views (NLDM, CCS timing/noise, LVF, variation-aware characterization) and statistical timing/power analysis.
- Must-have: Proven customer-facing applications engineering experience supporting strategic semiconductor accounts.
- Must-have: Scripting experience (Python, Tcl) for automation of characterization flows.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with memory compiler qualification, high-capacity simulation methodologies, machine learning or automation applied to characterization, and prior involvement with advanced-node characterization and validation.
