Role Summary
Principal FAE focused on data center customers in EMEA, responsible for driving design wins for Semtech's high-speed analog ICs and leading co-development for next-generation 1.6T/3.2T connectivity. Hybrid role based in Bristol, UK with office presence Monday–Thursday and flexible Fridays; travel up to 35%.
This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic customer engagement to influence product roadmaps and revenue outcomes.
Experience Level
Senior / Principal level. Preferred experience: 5+ years of AE/FAE work in data center, PON, or wireless/mobile transport environments involving strategic customer engagement.
Responsibilities
Lead customer-facing technical and strategic activities to secure design wins, accelerate co-development, and influence product strategy.
- Drive design-ins for high-speed drivers, TIAs, redrivers and related analog ICs with Tier‑1 hyperscalers and optical customers.
- Lead co-development projects for next-generation 1.6T and 3.2T technologies and run joint proof‑of‑concept programs.
- Accelerate customer design-in cycles by identifying and removing technical barriers to secure immediate revenue.
- Provide comprehensive pre-sales and post-sales technical support, troubleshooting, and qualification assistance.
- Guide customers on hardware design, PCB layout, impedance control, signal integrity optimization, firmware integration, and system validation.
- Support European PON and Mobile Transport accounts as required and balance regional priorities.
- Create application notes, design guides, and white papers to establish thought leadership.
- Advise product management and R&D with customer insights to influence roadmaps and resource allocation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and attributes to perform the role.
- 5+ years of proven AE/FAE experience in data center, PON, or mobile transport with strategic, customer-facing responsibilities.
- Expertise in signal integrity: high‑speed principles, channel modeling, equalization, and modulation schemes for 800G–3.2T systems.
- Knowledge of optical transceiver architecture, design validation, and manufacturing considerations.
- Experience with high-speed PCB design: layout practices, impedance control, and SI validation.
- Proficiency with high-speed test equipment such as network analyzers, BER testers, and oscilloscopes.
- Familiarity with IEEE 802.3, OIF, and/or ITU‑T PON standards.
- Proven success leading customer co‑development projects and securing substantial design‑win revenue.
- Strong communication and influencing skills; ability to operate autonomously and drive cross‑functional alignment.
Nice-to-have:
- Direct experience with laser/modulator drivers, TIAs, redrivers, or DSPs.
- Active participation in standards bodies (IEEE 802.3, OIF, ITU‑T).
- Existing relationships with European PON, Mobile Transport accounts, or hyperscaler engineering teams.
Education Requirements
