Job Title
Principal Field Application Engineer
Role Summary
Customer-facing technical role within Applications Engineering focused on accelerating adoption of Arm-based datacenter SoCs, compute platforms and related software across cloud service providers, OEMs/ODMs, and semiconductor partners. Acts as a technical consultant from initial evaluation through large-scale deployment, collaborating with customer architects, platform and firmware teams, OS/kernel and performance engineers.
Primary mission: enable design wins and successful deployments by resolving technical issues, guiding architecture and platform decisions, and feeding structured field feedback into product roadmaps.
Experience Level
Senior β Principal-level role. The posting specifies 5+ years of relevant, customer-facing technical experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical customer engagement, solution guidance, and internal collaboration to influence product and go-to-market strategies.
- Serve as the main technical contact for customers and support sales-driven adoption of Arm-based datacenter SoCs and platforms.
- Assess architectural tradeoffs (performance, power, area, TCO, scalability, software readiness, ecosystem maturity) with customers.
- Deliver technical presentations, architecture reviews, workshops, demonstrations, and roadmap discussions to engineering and executive audiences.
- Support design-in and design-win activities by addressing technical objections and deployment risks; lead proof-of-concepts and benchmarking efforts.
- Guide customers on silicon selection, system architecture, software enablement, and performance expectations.
- Troubleshoot hardware, firmware, software, tooling, performance optimization, and system integration issues during pre-sales and post-sales phases.
- Translate customer requirements into end-to-end Arm solution recommendations across CPU, GPU, AI, security, interconnect, and software ecosystems.
- Provide structured field feedback to influence product direction and collaborate with internal product, engineering, marketing, and business teams.
- Build and maintain long-term technical relationships with customer engineering, program management, and procurement teams.
Requirements
Summary of must-have and preferred skills. Education details are listed under "Education Requirements" below.
Must-have:
- 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role (e.g., Field Applications Engineer, Systems Engineer, Solutions Architect, Platform Engineer, Technical Account Engineer).
- Solid knowledge of server and datacenter architectures, including SoCs, CPUs, memory hierarchies, interconnects, networking, and platform software.
- Experience in one or more areas: datacenter CPUs/server platforms, cloud/hyperscaler environments, silicon/SoC bring-up, Linux/firmware/virtualization/systems software, or performance analysis/benchmarking/workload tuning.
- Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 20β30% to support customer engagements.
Nice-to-have / Preferred:
- Experience with Arm Neoverse, Arm server ecosystem standards, or Arm-based cloud/server deployments.
- Familiarity with hyperscaler/CSP workloads (cloud-native apps, AI inference/training, storage, networking).
- Experience supporting pre-sales technical engagements and design-win processes with OEMs/ODMs or silicon vendors.
- Knowledge of RAS, platform security, BMCs/Redfish/IPMI, PCIe, CXL, DDR, and accelerator integration.
- Understanding of competitive server architectures, industry trends, and datacenter requirements.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (as stated). No alternative degree-equivalence language was provided in the source.
