Job Title

Principal Field Application Engineer

Role Summary

The Principal Field Application Engineer (FAE) is a customer-facing technical lead who supports adoption of Arm-based datacenter SoCs and compute platforms by cloud service providers, OEMs/ODMs, semiconductor partners and system integrators. The role partners with sales, product and engineering teams to drive evaluation, design-in, deployment and post-sales support for server platforms.

Primary activities include technical enablement, architecture tradeoff analysis, demos and influencing product roadmaps based on field feedback.

Experience Level

Senior — Principal-level role. Requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant, customer-facing technical experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver technical support across pre-sales, design-in, and post-sales phases and act as the main technical interface to customers.

  • Serve as primary technical contact for customers to drive adoption of Arm-based datacenter SOCs, subsystems, and platforms.
  • Assess architectural tradeoffs across performance, power, area, TCO, software readiness, scalability, and ecosystem support.
  • Deliver technical presentations, workshops, demos and architecture reviews to engineering and executive audiences.
  • Support design-in and design-win activities by addressing technical objections, competitive positioning, and deployment risks.
  • Guide customers on silicon selection, system architecture, software enablement, and ecosystem readiness.
  • Lead proof-of-concepts, benchmarking, competitive analysis, and technical responses during pre-sales.
  • Collaborate with internal product, engineering, marketing, and business teams to convey customer requirements and market opportunities.
  • Diagnose and help resolve technical blockers across hardware, firmware, software, tools, performance, and system integration.
  • Build long-term trusted relationships with customer engineering, program, and procurement stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills for the role; preferred items are noted.

  • Must-have: Minimum of 5 years in a customer-facing technical role (e.g., Field Applications Engineer, Systems Engineer, Solutions Architect, Platform Engineer, Technical Account Engineer).
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of server architecture, SoCs, CPUs, memory hierarchy, interconnects, networking, and platform software.
  • Must-have: Experience with one or more areas: data center CPUs/server platforms, cloud infrastructure/hyperscaler environments, silicon/SoC bring-up, Linux/firmware/virtualization, or performance analysis and workload tuning.
  • Must-have: Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to explain complex technical topics to varied audiences.
  • Must-have: Ability to travel to customer sites as needed (~20–30%).
  • Preferred / Nice-to-have: Experience with Arm Neoverse, Arm server ecosystem standards, Arm-based cloud/server deployments, hyperscaler workloads (AI, storage, networking), RAS, platform security, BMCs/Redfish/IPMI, PCIe, CXL, DDR, or accelerator integration.
  • Preferred / Nice-to-have: Experience working directly with OEMs, ODMs, silicon vendors, or cloud infrastructure customers and familiarity with pre-sales technical support and design-win processes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is listed as required.
