Principal Engineer, Yield Engineering
Role Summary
Lead yield improvement and product performance activities for advanced technology nodes at GlobalFoundries' 300mm fab in Malta, NY. The role focuses on supporting technology transfers and high-volume production by investigating yield and functionality issues and driving corrective actions across test, integration, and process teams.
Experience Level
Level: Senior. The posting requests approximately 4 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include analyzing yield and product issues, implementing improvements, and coordinating with internal teams and customers.
- Drive yield and product performance for nodes at 45nm and below, supporting technology transfers and high-volume production.
- Investigate root causes of yield and product functionality failures using data and failure analysis.
- Analyze data, device behavior, and design information to identify improvement opportunities.
- Provide clear weekly updates to customers on yield status and forecasts.
- Collaborate with Test, Integration, and Process Module teams to implement fast, cost-effective fixes.
- Support customer engineering to meet external requirements and ensure product acceptance.
- Support process module engineering to improve cost, cycle time, and manufacturing robustness.
- Perform all work in compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for effective performance in this role.
- Minimum ~4 years of relevant industry experience in yield, test, or device-related engineering.
- Strong data analysis and structured problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of experiment design, execution, and analysis.
- Familiarity with circuit design and test methodologies, solid-state device physics, and submicron FET architectures.
- Ability to interpret electrical characteristics and their impact on yield and product behavior.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills for multicultural teams.
- Quick learner with an affinity for acquiring new technical skills.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Circuit Design, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Preferred: M.S. or Ph.D. in a related discipline.
