Principal Engineer - Technical Information
Role Summary
Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation for Microchip FPGA/SoC products. The role converts complex engineering topics (RTL, simulation, synthesis, timing, high-speed protocols, hardware validation) into user guides, reference manuals, and application notes for novice and advanced users.
The position owns documentation areas, drives process improvements, and works closely with engineering and product teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 10+ years of technical writing experience, preferably in the EDA or semiconductor domain.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include creating, validating, and publishing documentation and improving documentation processes.
- Develop, maintain, and publish user-focused technical documentation for FPGA/SoC products (user guides, reference manuals, application notes).
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and software engineers to ensure technical accuracy and completeness.
- Apply documentation standards, style guides, and structured authoring practices (DITA, FrameMaker).
- Create diagrams, workflows, and illustrations to clarify complex workflows and procedures.
- Manage documentation deliverables and schedules; meet tight deadlines and improve processes.
Requirements
Key skills and experience required and preferred.
- 10+ years technical writing experience, preferably in EDA or the semiconductor industry.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication; proven ability to meet aggressive deadlines.
- Hands-on experience with structured authoring and DITA workflows.
- Proficiency with FrameMaker and MS Word; ability to produce graphics with MS Visio or similar tools.
- Familiarity with collaboration and project platforms: JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint.
- Practical experience using EDA/semiconductor tools to produce content.
- Experience writing user guides and related documentation for EDA or semiconductor products is preferred.
- Ability to work in an agile, fast-paced environment and manage multiple deliverables.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Education Requirements
B.Tech or Master’s degree, or a degree in English literature or Electronics engineering; or equivalent practical experience (the posting lists B.Tech/Masters with equivalent experience).
