Job Title

Principal Engineer, Systems Design/Architecture Engineering

Role Summary

Principal engineer on the ADI Industrial team responsible for system-level design and architecture of high-speed mixed-signal CMOS products. Work includes wireline transmitter/receiver design, digitally-assisted analog and mixed-mode equalization, and high-speed custom digital circuits.

Collaborate with IC design, verification, and system teams to integrate chiplet and SoC-level designs into industrial product lines; provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires 7+ years of relevant system design/architecture and integration experience.

Responsibilities

Accountabilities for the role include technical leadership, hands-on circuit and system design, and cross-team integration.

  • Lead architecture and detailed design of complex high-speed systems to meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Design wireline transmitters and receivers; implement mixed-mode decision feedback equalizers (DFE).
  • Develop digitally-assisted high-speed analog circuits and custom high-speed digital blocks.
  • Apply analog and digital wireline equalization techniques at system and chip levels.
  • Integrate designs into larger systems and collaborate with cross-functional teams (verification, layout, firmware, system).
  • Provide technical leadership, code/design reviews, and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Present design proposals and results to stakeholders and contribute to project planning.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are listed separately.

  • Must-have: Proven experience in high-speed CMOS and/or data converter design.
  • Must-have: Expertise in FinFET (e.g. 16nm, 5nm) or fine-line planar analog CMOS (e.g. 28nm).
  • Must-have: Experience with wireline equalization (analog and digital) and mixed-mode DFE design.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in digitally-assisted high-speed analog design and custom high-speed digital circuits.
  • Must-have: Strong presentation, technical writing, and collaboration skills.
  • Must-have: Ability to lead designs and mentor engineering staff; willingness to travel up to ~10%.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with SW-defined CMOS communications or radar system design.
  • Nice-to-have: Project management experience and advanced problem-solving skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred.
