Principal Engineer SoC Design Lead
GlobalFoundriesJob Title
Principal Engineer SoC Design Lead
Role Summary
Technical lead responsible for the architecture, microarchitecture, RTL implementation, IP integration and delivery of complex processor-based SoCs for advanced sensor products. Owns system-level tradeoffs and cross-functional execution from specification through tapeout and silicon bring-up.
Works with RTL, verification, DFT, physical design, software and product teams to define reusable platform architectures and ensure production-quality RTL and integration.
Experience Level
Senior (Principal) β employer indicates minimum 15+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading SoC architecture and delivery:
- Define SoC and subsystem architectures (processing subsystems, memory hierarchy, NoC/interconnect, clocking/reset, interrupts, peripherals).
- Develop microarchitectural specifications and implementation-ready designs.
- Own system-level performance, power and area (PPA) tradeoffs and scalability decisions.
- Lead RTL implementation teams and drive convergence to production-quality RTL.
- Define and integrate subsystem interfaces across compute, datapath, software, safety, security and peripherals.
- Collaborate with verification, DFT and physical design to meet functionality, timing and integration targets.
- Evaluate, select and integrate internal and third-party IP and establish IP reuse practices.
- Drive execution from specification through tapeout, support post-silicon bring-up and root-cause analysis.
- Mentor RTL and integration engineers; lead technical reviews and design signoffs.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills. Degree requirements are summarized separately below.
Must-have
- Proven experience architecting and delivering complex SoCs and subsystems.
- Experience with memory hierarchies, NoCs, bus architectures and system integration.
- Expertise in RTL development using Verilog or SystemVerilog and RTL review practices.
- Demonstrated ability to perform architecture-level PPA tradeoff analysis.
- Experience driving cross-functional integration with verification, DFT and physical design teams.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with automotive or other safety-critical systems.
- Experience with multicore systems, security and functional-safety architectures.
- Experience with advanced implementation and signoff flows and platform roadmap definition.
- Prior experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and establishing engineering best practices.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and 15+ years of relevant industry experience as specified by the employer. The posting does not specify particular fields of study or certifications.
