Principal Engineer, Silicon Photonics Assembly
Role Summary
Lead development and qualification of assembly and integration technologies for silicon photonics and co-packaged optics (CPO). Work within the Advanced Packaging Technology Development team to create manufacturable assembly processes from early evaluation through prototype build and product qualification.
Experience Level
Senior-level - requires 10+ years of experience in advanced packaging, semiconductor assembly, or technology development.
Responsibilities
Primary technical and program responsibilities for silicon photonics and CPO assembly development:
- Develop and qualify assembly processes for optical engines, connector attach, and CPO components.
- Lead process development, characterization, and design of experiments (DOE) to define process windows and yields.
- Collaborate with OSATs, equipment suppliers, and material vendors to evaluate new processes, materials, and tools.
- Drive root-cause analysis and resolve assembly and reliability issues.
- Provide technical leadership from early technology evaluation through prototype build and product qualification.
- Interface with product teams and cross-functional engineering groups to ensure manufacturability and package integration.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience; preferred items noted.
- 10+ years experience in advanced packaging, semiconductor assembly, or technology development.
- Proven track record developing and qualifying advanced package assembly technologies for complex semiconductor or photonic products.
- Strong expertise in assembly process development, package integration, and design for manufacturability.
- Experience leading DOE, process characterization, and reliability testing.
- Experience collaborating with OSATs, equipment suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Preferred: optical module integration and co-packaged optics (CPO) experience.

Education Requirements
M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
