Job Title
Principal Engineer, Product Applications (ATE/Power)
Role Summary
Lead product applications for semiconductor products aimed at the Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) market, including device power supplies (DPS) and integrated high-speed/precision signal chains. Manage product lifecycle from concept and definition through production release and sustaining.
Collaborate with customers, marketing, design, field applications, and sales to define product requirements, support design-in activities, and deliver evaluation hardware, diagnostics, documentation, and training.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 7β10+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include customer engagement, test and evaluation, and creation of design-in tools and documentation.
- Lead customer engagement for new ATE product concepts and product definition; translate customer needs into product requirements.
- Own design-in success for assigned ATE device power supply products during customer evaluation and production ramp.
- Analyze product evaluation and reliability test data; identify and drive resolution of silicon or system issues to root cause.
- Design and execute evaluation and characterization tests across customer use cases and environmental conditions.
- Prepare evaluation hardware, diagnostic programs, test fixtures, specifications, and procedures.
- Contribute to product datasheets and produce technical literature (user guides, application notes, reference designs, design notes, FAQs).
- Create demonstration systems and design-in tools (including online tools) that highlight product value to customers.
- Develop and deliver training for customers, field application engineers, sales engineers, and distributors.
- Develop system-level understanding of power supply behavior in ATE systems.
- Travel for customer engagement and support (approximately 10%, including occasional travel to Europe and Asia).
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience. Items marked "Must-have" are core requirements; others are desirable.
-
Must-have: PCB schematic entry and layout experience; Cadence Allegro preferred.
-
Must-have: Practical experience with switching DC/DC converters and analog circuit design.
-
Must-have: Strong oral and written communication skills and experience working directly with customers and internal cross-functional teams.
-
Must-have: Familiarity with common electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, VNAs, spectrum analyzers).
- Experience designing and executing evaluation tests and interpreting measurement data to debug issues.
- Experience with high-level software languages and test automation (examples: LabVIEW, C#, C, Python, MATLAB).
- Experience using SPICE circuit simulators (LTSpice) is advantageous.
- Understanding of control-loop concepts (poles, zeros, bandwidth, phase margin) is a plus.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with ATE products from design or usage perspective (pin drivers, comparators, PPMU, DPS).
- System engineering experience and familiarity with semiconductor IC processes are beneficial.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or an equivalent professional qualification is specified; minimum 7β10 years of relevant experience. A PhD is preferred. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
