Job Title

Principal Engineer, Power Management IC Designer

Role Summary

Lead a team of analog/mixed-signal IC designers focused on power management integrated circuits (PMICs) in Renesas' HiRel division. Own transistor-level design, verification, validation and transfer to production for high-reliability and space-targeted power products.

Work cross-functionally with product, applications, process, test, and marketing teams to define product requirements and deliver high-performance DC-DC converters, LDOs, multi-function PMICs and related analog subsystems.

Experience Level

Senior β€” Principal-level engineering role. Posting specifies MSEE plus 15+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include technical leadership, hands-on circuit design, and driving products from concept to production.

  • Participate in product definition with marketing, applications, and customers.
  • Perform transistor-level design of analog and mixed-signal circuits for new and derivative PMIC products.
  • Apply deep knowledge of power process technologies to create innovative designs.
  • Manage and mentor IC design team members to meet schedule and quality objectives.
  • Validate and debug prototypes; lead characterization and verification prior to transfer to production engineering.
  • Coordinate with process, test, product, application, and marketing stakeholders through product development and release.
  • Design and optimize large power transistors, switch-mode power topologies, and gate-driver/control solutions for high-voltage and multi-phase systems.

Requirements

Key technical and leadership requirements. Items labeled "Must-have" are essential; "Nice-to-have" are preferred.

  • Must-have: Proven experience leading a team of IC designers and delivering released power-management products.
  • Must-have: Thorough understanding of integrated analog circuit design and analog/digital interfaces.
  • Must-have: Strong knowledge of bipolar, BiCMOS, and BCD process technologies and circuit/layout robustness for large power transistors (bipolar and DMOS).
  • Must-have: Experience with switch-mode power topologies (boost, buck, multi-phase current sharing) and control techniques.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with Cadence tools for analog design and mixed-signal simulation; experience with behavioral top-level modeling and mixed-signal verification methodologies.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with radiation-hardened power management products and HiRel/space-market requirements.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with gate-driver techniques and formal control-system understanding.
  • Other: Highly self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work in cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) required, accompanied by 15+ years of relevant industry experience in analog/power management IC design. Fields: electrical engineering, analog/mixed-signal design, power electronics or closely related technical disciplines.
