Principal Engineer, Manufacturing Product

Role Summary

The Principal Manufacturing Product Engineer provides technical leadership and is the senior product-engineering owner for assigned cloud products at Lumentum Thailand (Navanakorn, Pathum Thani). The role partners with Manufacturing, R&D, Process Engineering, Quality, NPI, and Supply Chain to ensure products are manufacturable, reliable, scalable, and meet performance, quality, delivery, and cost objectives across the product lifecycle.

Experience Level

Senior - requires at least 12 years of experience in product engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical role.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities focus on technical ownership, product industrialization, yield/quality/cost improvements, and cross-functional alignment.

• Serve as principal product engineer and technical owner for assigned cloud products.
• Define product requirements, manufacturing readiness, and lifecycle execution.
• Lead NPI, product transfer, qualification, and production ramp-up activities.
• Perform DfX reviews (manufacturability, assembly, test, reliability, cost) and ensure accurate BOMs, drawings, and product documentation.
• Drive yield, quality, reliability, and cost-improvement initiatives; lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions for complex issues.
• Assess product and manufacturing risks and provide data-driven recommendations to stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers, build product-engineering capability, and influence cross-functional technical decisions.
• Coordinate technical status, risks, and plans with global teams and senior stakeholders.
• Comply with EHS policies and promote safe work practices across office, lab, cleanroom, and manufacturing environments.
• Support occasional outside-normal-hours activities for production, NPI, or global collaboration.

Requirements

Mandatory technical experience and skills are listed below; preferred domain experience is noted separately.

• Must-have: Minimum 12 years of experience in product engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related technical roles.
• Must-have: Proven experience supporting NPI, product transfer, volume ramp, and sustaining engineering.
• Must-have: Strong knowledge of product lifecycle management, configuration control, DfX, qualification, and engineering-change management.
• Must-have: Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Must-have: Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder-management, and technical leadership skills.
• Must-have: Effective English communication and ability to work with global teams.
• Nice-to-have: Experience in optical, photonic, semiconductor, electronics, or other high-technology manufacturing.
• Nice-to-have: Strategic/systems thinking, manufacturing and business acumen, and experience coaching engineering teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, or a related field is required; a master's degree is preferred.
