Principal Engineer, HIG-HBM Layout (MTS)

Role Summary

Senior layout engineer on the HIG HBM team in Hyderabad responsible for designing and delivering custom ASIC layouts for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products used in AI and high-performance computing applications.

The role leads layout projects and a layout team, coordinates across sites, defines specifications, and ensures tape-out readiness and product-level quality.

Experience Level

Senior — Principal-level role. Posting specifies 18+ years of analog/custom layout experience and 4+ years of team development and project leadership experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership of layout activities, project execution, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

• Lead and grow a premier analog/mixed-signal layout team to meet global HBM layout requirements.
• Design and optimize die layouts, floorplans, and manual routing for performance, power, and area.
• Drive architecture analysis and implement high-speed interface and mixed-signal layout techniques.
• Manage multiple custom IC layout projects through tape-out, including resource allocation and logistics.
• Produce and communicate layout specifications and documentation to internal teams and external customers.
• Participate in industry standards committees and represent the company in technical forums.
• Support customers on product implementation and provide technical guidance across time zones and sites.
• Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and retain team members; lead hiring and team development efforts.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; separates must-have from nice-to-have where possible.

• Must-have: 18+ years of analog/custom IC layout experience in advanced CMOS processes.
• Must-have: Minimum 4+ years of experience developing teams and leading projects.
• Must-have: Experience leading multiple projects and tape-outs; proven project management skills.
• Must-have: Expertise with Cadence VLE/VXL and Calibre DRC/LVS.
• Must-have: Strong layout, floorplanning, and manual routing skills for mixed-signal designs.
• Must-have: Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to work across multi-functional, multi-site teams and time zones.
• Nice-to-have: Deep familiarity with off-chip signaling, high-speed interface principles, and mixed-signal integration.
• Nice-to-have: Prior involvement in standards committees or industry consortiums.

Education Requirements

BE or MTech in Electronics or VLSI Engineering (as stated in posting).
