Job Title

Principal Engineer - HIG Component Validation

Role Summary

As a Principal Engineer on Micron's HBM New Product Validation team in Boise, ID, you will lead validation strategy and readiness for next-generation High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products. You will define architecture-aware validation approaches, lead investigations from pre-silicon simulation through post-silicon characterization, and partner across Design, Validation, Product Engineering, and Systems teams to improve observability, debug efficiency, and scalability.

Experience Level

Senior - Principal-level role. The posting expects 8+ years of semiconductor experience.

Responsibilities

Lead validation planning, evaluation, and investigations across the product development lifecycle.

  • Define architecture-aware validation strategies and coverage direction for future HBM products.
  • Prepare test environments, execution plans, and readiness activities before first silicon to reduce risk and accelerate issue resolution.
  • Evaluate new DRAM/HBM architectural features and define validation and testability requirements prior to DBR.
  • Develop validation strategies for new and high-risk features and promote reuse across product generations.
  • Use silicon data, simulation results, and structured risk analysis to challenge design assumptions.
  • Lead investigations of complex architecture, building, and silicon issues from pre-silicon simulation through post-silicon characterization.
  • Use Verilog/SystemVerilog simulation to identify validation gaps and assess coverage and observability pre-silicon.
  • Develop and promote AI-enabled validation methodologies to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: 8+ years of semiconductor industry experience with proven pre-silicon and post-silicon debug of DRAM/HBM issues.
  • Must-have: Deep knowledge of DRAM and HBM architectures, memory subsystem design, protocol validation, timing characterization, and failure mechanisms.
  • Must-have: Experience analyzing schematics and performing timing-accurate (SPICE-level / transistor-level) simulations.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with Verilog/SystemVerilog, Python, Linux environments, and version control systems (git, svn, Perforce).
  • Must-have: Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and technical presentation skills with a record of technical influence.
  • Preferred: Experience defining validation strategy or coverage methodology for HBM or advanced DRAM products.
  • Preferred: Experience influencing design-for-validation or testability decisions and validation hardware pathfinding (probe cards, sockets, interface boards).
  • Preferred: Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, high-speed I/O, and signal-integrity validation.
  • Preferred: Experience applying AI/ML or generative-AI solutions to validation, test, or debug workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
