Job Title
Principal Engineer, HBM Layout
Role Summary
Design and deliver analog, mixed-signal and custom-digital block layouts and support full-chip integration for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products. Work on multiple projects for AI and high-performance computing applications within Micron's HBM team in Guadalajara, collaborating with global engineering teams.
Experience Level
Senior β the posting specifies a minimum of 5+ years of relevant layout experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include block-level layout development, verification, and project execution across multiple concurrent projects.
- Design and develop analog, mixed-signal, and custom digital blocks; support full-chip layout integration.
- Perform layout verification (LVS/DRC/Antenna), quality checks, and maintain documentation.
- Deliver block-level layouts on schedule with required quality standards.
- Plan, estimate area/time, schedule, delegate, and execute layout tasks across multiple projects.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with global engineering teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 5+ years of analog/custom layout design experience in advanced CMOS processes (Planar, FinFET).
- Expertise with Cadence (VLE/VXL) and Mentor Graphics Calibre (DRC/LVS).
- Hands-on experience creating layouts for critical analog blocks (e.g., temperature sensors, PLLs, ADC/DAC, LDO, bandgap, reference generators, charge pumps, current mirrors, comparators, differential amplifiers).
- Solid understanding of analog layout fundamentals: matching, electromigration, latch-up, coupling/crosstalk, IR-drop, and parasitics.
- Knowledge of how layout impacts circuit behavior: speed, capacitance, power, and area.
- Experience with layout verification flows and producing quality verification deliverables.
- Ability to manage priorities and meet project milestones in a multi-project environment; effective communication with distributed teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Multiple tape-out support experience.
- Experience managing multiple layout projects and leading quality checks at all stages of layout development.
- Strong problem-solving skills in physical verification of custom layouts.
Education Requirements
BE or MTech in Electronic / VLSI Engineering or a related field.
