Principal Engineer, Emulation
Role Summary
Lead the Emulation Center of Excellence for Custom Compute and Storage (CCS) products, defining emulation strategy, enabling vendor platforms, and driving emulation-based verification for complex SoCs.
Work with project leads, validation teams, and vendor application engineers to deliver emulation infrastructure, improve pre-silicon and post-silicon readiness, and accelerate software bring-up.
Experience Level
Senior (Principal). Typical experience: Master's/PhD with 10+ years or Bachelor's with 13+ years as indicated in the posting.
Responsibilities
Accountabilities for this role include:
- Define emulation strategy and platform requirements for large SoC projects.
- Develop and execute emulation test plans and verification on platforms such as Veloce, Zebu and Palladium.
- Specify emulation hardware needs, including transactors, speed-bridges, and related HW/SW collateral.
- Partner with vendor application engineers to troubleshoot, enable vendor platforms, and resolve hardware/software issues.
- Design and implement HW/SW capabilities to accelerate RTL and improve emulation/FPGA model usability for pre- and post-silicon validation and software development.
- Advise pre-silicon validation teams on environment and test-suite optimization for emulation efficiency.
- Develop automation, flows, and scripts to improve emulation usability and equipment utilization.
Requirements
Must-have technical and leadership skills (education requirements are listed separately below):
- Proven record of managing technical and cross-functional teams in emulation and verification projects.
- Extensive experience with emulation platforms and building complex SoC emulation models (vendors such as Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens).
- Strong verification and debug experience on emulation platforms.
- Working knowledge of processor architecture, SoC components, interconnect buses, IO protocols (PCIe, CXL, Ethernet) and memory interfaces (DDR, HBM).
- Proficient scripting skills: Perl, Python, Tcl, and Unix shell.
- Experience developing automation and tools to improve emulation workflows and utilization.
- Nice-to-have: experience with FPGA models and post-silicon validation practices.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with 13+ years of related professional experience; or Master's degree and/or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with 10+ years of experience.
