Job Title
Principal Engineer - Design
Role Summary
Lead and deliver complex digital design projects within the ASIC/SoC development lifecycle. Work with cross-functional teams (architecture, verification, physical design, test, and product management) to define requirements, implement RTL, and ensure silicon success.
Drive technical decisions, design reviews, and mentor engineers to meet performance, area, power, and schedule targets.
Experience Level
Senior β Principal-level role. Typically requires extensive hands-on experience in digital/ASIC design and leadership responsibility.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, hands-on design, and cross-team collaboration.
- Define architecture and micro-architecture for complex IP blocks or subsystems.
- Develop and review RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog), drive synthesis and timing closure activities.
- Collaborate with verification, physical design, test, and firmware teams to ensure correct implementation and silicon bring-up.
- Lead design reviews, set technical direction, and make trade-off decisions for power, area, and performance.
- Mentor and coach engineers; coordinate tasks and schedules across teams to meet delivery milestones.
- Support FPGA prototyping, lab characterization, debug, and post-silicon validation as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role.
- Extensive hands-on experience in digital ASIC/SoC design and RTL development (Verilog/SystemVerilog).
- Strong experience with synthesis, timing closure, STA, and ECO flows.
- Experience with DFT/scan insertion and test methodologies.
- Proficiency with common EDA tool flows (synthesis, simulation, lint, formal, and timing tools).
- Proven track record of leading design efforts and coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver silicon.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills during bring-up and characterization.
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with advanced process nodes and low-power design techniques.
- Background in physical design, analog/mixed-signal blocks, or layout interactions.
- Familiarity with scripting for automation (Tcl, Python, Perl) and FPGA prototyping flows.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
