Principal Engineer – CAD Design Engineering & EDA Infrastructure
Role Summary
Lead strategy, architecture, development, and operational excellence for CAD and EDA infrastructure that supports ASIC, SoC, IP, and verification teams. Deliver scalable engineering environments, automation, tool optimization, cloud adoption, and initiatives that improve engineering productivity and time-to-results.
Experience Level
Senior — 12+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor CAD/EDA infrastructure or CAD engineering.
Responsibilities
The role combines technical leadership, platform engineering, and cross-functional collaboration to enable design teams and improve design flows.
- Define and execute CAD/EDA infrastructure vision, roadmap, and strategy.
- Design, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure engineering environments and hybrid/cloud workflows.
- Optimize RTL-to-GDSII flows (synthesis, P&R, STA, DFT, verification, signoff).
- Evaluate, deploy, and support EDA toolchains from major vendors (e.g., Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens/Mentor).
- Drive automation and engineering productivity using Python, Tcl, Shell, and modern software practices.
- Implement CI/CD and DevOps practices for CAD environments and workflows.
- Architect and manage large-scale Linux compute farms, job schedulers, storage, and networking.
- Manage EDA license infrastructure, capacity planning, and utilization optimization.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and lead root-cause analysis for complex issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role.
- 12+ years in semiconductor design methodologies, CAD engineering, or EDA infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of ASIC/SoC design and verification flows.
- Strong expertise with Linux/Unix environments and distributed computing systems.
- Hands-on experience with major EDA platforms and tool optimization.
- Advanced programming and automation skills in Python, Tcl, Shell, or similar languages.
- Experience managing compute farms, license servers, storage systems, and enterprise infrastructure.
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Leadership experience: mentoring engineers, influencing technical decisions, and driving cross-team projects.
- Nice-to-have: cloud-enabled design workflows, hybrid compute environments, CI/CD for CAD, and dashboarding/monitoring platforms.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
