Principal Engineer, ASIC Digital Design
SynopsysJob Title
Principal Engineer, ASIC Digital Design
Role Summary
Lead and drive digital ASIC design efforts for complex SoC or IP projects from architecture through silicon bring-up. Work within the ASIC Digital Design team based in Moreira (Porto), Portugal and collaborate with verification, physical design, firmware, and product teams.
Experience Level
Senior (principal-level). Specific years of experience not stated in the source.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include technical leadership, design delivery, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Define and review RTL architecture and microarchitecture for digital blocks and subsystems.
- Implement and optimize SystemVerilog/VHDL RTL to meet functional, performance, and area goals.
- Drive timing closure, synthesis constraints, and implementation handoff with physical design teams.
- Plan and supervise verification strategies and integration with pre-existing IP and SoC environments.
- Specify and oversee DFT insertion, ATPG, and bring-up requirements.
- Mentor and review work of engineers, promote design best practices and coding standards.
- Collaborate with product, firmware, and validation teams to ensure successful tapeout and silicon bring-up.
Requirements
Essential technical skills and leadership experience required; desirable skills listed separately.
- Must-have: Proven ASIC digital design experience at principal or senior engineer level (architecture through silicon).
- Must-have: Strong RTL design and coding skills (SystemVerilog/VHDL) and hands-on experience with synthesis and timing closure.
- Must-have: Experience with DFT/ATPG, design-for-test strategies, and working with physical design teams.
- Must-have: Experience leading technical teams or projects and collaborating across disciplines.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with EDA tool flows (synthesis, static timing, formal), low-power design techniques, and scripting (Tcl, Python).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with IP integration, SoC-level design, or prior work on high-performance digital designs.
