Principal Engineer, Application Engineering

Role Summary

Customer-facing technical role focused on DDR/LPDDR controller system architecture and SoC memory subsystem integration. Work directly with customer architects to define memory subsystem configurations, close architecture decisions, and ensure deployment readiness.

Translate customer requirements and integration constraints into actionable feedback for product management and R&D; reduce integration risk and improve the likelihood of successful design wins.

Experience Level

Senior - 5+ years of relevant experience in DDR/LPDDR architecture, memory subsystem design, SoC integration, silicon validation, systems or applications engineering, or customer-facing technical leadership.

Responsibilities

Lead customer engagements to define and validate memory subsystem architecture and guide platform-level decisions.

• Own technical architecture engagement for DDR/LPDDR controller IP from requirements through architecture closure and initial deployment readiness.
• Work with customer architects and engineering teams to define DDR/LPDDR subsystem configurations for advanced SoC platforms.
• Analyze system-level trade-offs: bandwidth, latency, power efficiency, QoS, reliability, validation, and scalability.
• Translate customer platform requirements and integration constraints into clear feedback for product management, R&D, and roadmap planning.
• Support technical closure of design wins with architecture guidance, configuration recommendations, and competitive positioning.
• Develop reusable technical materials and application notes based on engagement experience.
• Train FAEs and customer teams on architecture, integration, performance tuning, validation expectations, and deployment best practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience. Educational degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in DDR/LPDDR architecture, memory subsystem design, SoC integration, silicon validation, systems engineering, or customer-facing technical roles.
• Solid understanding of DDR and/or LPDDR controller IP: controller configuration, scheduling, QoS, power management, training, validation, and system integration.
• System-level understanding of SoC integration and ability to reason about memory bandwidth, latency, power, QoS, reliability, validation, and software/firmware trade-offs.
• Proven experience engaging directly with customer architects, design teams, validation teams, and technical decision-makers.
• Ability to translate ambiguous customer requirements into clear technical recommendations and product feedback.
• Strong technical communication skills: clear written analysis, structured trade-off explanations, and ability to align customer, sales, product, and engineering teams.

Nice-to-have

• Experience with Linux, firmware bring-up, or software-driven debug of DDR/LPDDR subsystems.
• Familiarity with advanced SoC architectures used in AI, HPC, automotive, mobile, networking, or compute platforms.
• Experience with memory performance analysis, traffic modeling, QoS management, memory hierarchy optimization, or system-level benchmarking.
• Knowledge of DDR5, LPDDR5X, LPDDR6, memory training algorithms, RAS features, chiplet-based memory architectures, or AI memory bandwidth optimization.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
