Principal Electrical Engineer
Role Summary
Lead design, development, integration, test, and production of advanced military electronic systems at BAE Systems' Nashua, NH campus. Work across the full product lifecycle with electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and test engineers to deliver high-reliability embedded hardware for electronic warfare and countermeasure systems.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 6+ years of relevant engineering experience (or 4+ years with a Master's in Electrical Engineering).
Responsibilities
Accountable for technical leadership across hardware projects and ensuring product performance, quality, and reliability.
- Design and troubleshoot digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power circuit card assemblies (CCAs) for military electronics/avionics.
- Lead electrical engineering efforts for development, integration, test, and production of complex military systems.
- Participate in requirements definition, technical trade studies, and technology insertion decisions.
- Develop hardware architectures leveraging embedded processors, microcontrollers, and VHDL-based FPGAs/SoCs.
- Develop and execute test plans, integrate test solutions, and produce detailed test reports.
- Mentor and transfer knowledge to junior engineering staff.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and qualifications (degree details are listed under Education Requirements).
- Proven design, test, and troubleshooting experience for high-reliability embedded systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical principles and test methodologies; able to use advanced lab/test equipment.
- Extensive laboratory and hands-on hardware debugging experience.
- Eligible to obtain a U.S. DoD security clearance.
- Experience with requirements-driven design, risk-reduction prototyping, and Agile hardware development processes.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- FPGA/VHDL design experience; familiarity with memory interfaces (DDR, QSPI) and protocols (PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204, I2C, JTAG, MIL-STD-1553).
- Power supply (DC-to-DC) design and mixed-signal PCB/CCA design experience; Cadence or similar PCB tools.
- Experience with MIL-STD testing and aerospace/defense development standards (e.g., MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, AS9145 processes).
- Experience with LRIP/FRP electronics manufacturing and test methodologies and control account management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
