Principal Digital Engineer
Role Summary
Lead specification, architecture, design, verification, and physical implementation of digital IP and system-level solutions for power-management IC products within the BMS/Power Design team. Collaborate with Test, Product, Application Engineering and customers to drive products from specification through silicon validation and release.
Work focuses on next-generation ICs for consumer, industrial and automotive power markets.
Experience Level
Senior β 15+ years of professional experience in Digital Design Engineering.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Define chip specifications and evaluate process/technology options for target applications.
- Lead system-level design and digital module implementation, including full-chip simulations.
- Develop and execute comprehensive design verification plans to ensure system-level correctness.
- Manage synthesis and place-and-route constraints, including clock tree specifications.
- Oversee testability: scan insertion, pattern generation, and other DFT activities to meet silicon quality targets.
- Partner with Test, Product, and Application Engineering to develop validation plans and guide product releases.
- Engage with customers to capture application requirements and define system-level solutions; support customer technical reviews and design-ins.
- Provide technical subject-matter expertise for internal teams and marketing activities.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Expert Verilog coding skills; strong experience with register-file design, serial interfaces, and state-machine architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Cadence tool flow for synthesis, linting, static timing analysis (STA), and CDC closure.
- Proven DFT experience including scan insertion, self-test methodologies, and automation scripting.
- Strong verification background with SystemVerilog; experience developing and executing verification plans.
- Demonstrated ability to manage physical implementation requirements and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical and customer-facing interactions.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Verilog-AMS for functional modeling and mixed-signal verification.
- Experience automating flows and tools beyond standard Cadence flows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred. The role expects substantial industry experience (as noted above).
