Job Title
Principal Design Evaluation Engineer
Role Summary
Owner of end-to-end evaluation solutions for precision mixed-signal integrated circuits, from test concept and schematics through PCB bring-up, automation, and evaluation reporting. The role sits within the INS ATE Design Evaluation Group and supports device validation, characterization, and qualification for products such as integrated device power supplies and high-speed/precision signal chains.
The engineer will ensure correlation between bench results, ATE test, and design simulations and will partner across New Product Development, applications teams, and Failure Analysis to enable product readiness.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 10+ years of relevant industry experience in analyzing/debugging analog and digital circuits, coding, and test automation.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and delivering hardware and software test solutions and supporting cross-functional teams to validate and qualify mixed-signal products.
- Develop product evaluation test solutions for high-performance analog and mixed-signal ICs.
- Design, develop, and debug cost-effective evaluation hardware and software for characterization and qualification in wafer probe and package environments.
- Define evaluation test methodologies, test plans, and test modes in collaboration with design engineers.
- Create evaluation test schematics and coordinate with layout engineers for PCB development.
- Program and debug evaluation test programs to correlate bench results with design simulations (examples: C#, Python).
- Perform bench validation using instruments such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, VNAs, signal generators, source meters, and power supplies.
- Support local and offshore applications teams and assist Failure Analysis with customer returns.
- Participate in New Product Development and characterize new evaluation test systems for future applications.
- Manage project schedules to align with product introduction and release dates and communicate status to senior leaders.
- Deliver clear test documentation and evaluation reports.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and conditions; nice-to-have items noted where applicable.
- Minimum ~10 years experience analyzing and debugging analog and digital circuits, coding, and automation.
- Availability to be on site in Colorado Springs, CO.
- Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills; experience documenting and presenting test plans and reports.
- Basic knowledge of analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed circuit behavior and measurement techniques.
- Strong programming fundamentals in at least one language; experience with C#, C++, or Python is beneficial.
- Experience with bench equipment (spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, VNAs, power supplies, source meters).
- Familiarity with PCB schematic and layout tools such as OrCAD or Cadence Allegro.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and statistical data analysis using Excel or similar tools.
- Experience with FPGA, microprocessors, or microcontrollers is a plus.
- Understanding of hardware/software interfaces, optimization, and automation is a plus.
- Required travel: approximately 10%.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical field is required. A Master's degree is preferred. The posting specifies degrees in Electrical Engineering or relevant technical disciplines such as Electronics Engineering.
