Principal Design Engineer
Cadence Design SystemsJob Title
Principal Design Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for analog circuit design focused on high-speed SerDes and memory interface circuits. Works within an ASIC design team to develop I/O, PLLs, clocking, and datapath circuitry for high-performance interfaces.
Role includes circuit design, verification, collaboration on signal and power integrity, and supporting silicon bring-up and reliability efforts.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 8+ years of relevant experience in analog, I/O, SerDes, or memory-interface design.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement high-speed SerDes and memory interface circuits (I/O, PLLs, clocking, datapaths).
- Architect and optimize interfaces such as PCIe and DDR/LPDDR/GDDR PHYs and related datapaths.
- Perform circuit-level verification, simulation, and characterization addressing SI/PI and reliability.
- Collaborate with digital, package, and board teams on SI/PI and ESD requirements.
- Debug silicon failures, analyze measurements, and propose corrective actions.
- Document design decisions and present technical results to stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred qualifications:
- Must-have: Deep understanding of high-speed SerDes and memory interface circuits including I/O, PLLs, clocking, and datapaths.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with PCIe Gen3/4/5/6 and DDRx/LPDDR/GDDR memory interface circuits.
- Must-have: Strong analog and I/O design fundamentals; experience with ESD, reliability, signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI).
- Must-have: Excellent written and verbal communication and strong problem-solving skills.
- Nice-to-have: Prior experience on advanced process nodes such as 16nm, 12nm, 10nm or 7nm.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering (BE, BTech, ME, MTech) or MS in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
