Job Title

Principal Datacenter Platform Validation Lab Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Datacenter Graphics and Accelerated Computing (DCGPU) validation lab to deploy pre-production platforms, enable silicon bring-up, and support system-level validation. The role performs hands-on hardware experiments, board-level reworks, and collaborates with platform leads and engineers to triage and resolve complex SOC and system issues.

Experience Level

Senior (Principal). Specific years of experience not specified.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities center on lab setup, troubleshooting, validation, and test automation to support DCGPU platform bring-up and debugging.

  • Set up hardware and test stations to support remote and local test execution and user-defined workloads in the validation lab.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting and debug of system, firmware, and software issues while maintaining development systems.
  • Reproduce reported issues and validate fixes identified by platform leads and chief engineers.
  • Collect and provide logs, telemetry, and statistics to aid further analysis.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD (examples: Jenkins, Ansible) and work with automated test frameworks.
  • Work within a managed ticketing system and communicate status, steps, and results clearly to stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical lab experience are listed below. Preferred or bonus skills are noted separately.

  • Must-have: Proven test-bench and embedded-systems hardware setup and hands-on board bring-up experience.
  • Must-have: Proficient soldering and board rework skills; experience with HW rework and fault isolation.
  • Must-have: Ability to read and interpret board schematics and perform hardware debugging.
  • Must-have: Programming and scripting experience (Python, Bash, C/C++) on Windows and Linux for automation and debugging tasks.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with PC/server hardware and software setup, administration, and common lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, current probes, electronic loads, protocol analyzers).
  • Must-have: Experience with power-supply monitoring and sequencing; solid understanding of power-electronics fundamentals, including multiphase converters.
  • Must-have: Practical experience documenting experiments and results, and working independently to drive tasks to completion.
  • Nice-to-have: Test automation experience with Perl, Tcl, LabView or similar frameworks; experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with low-speed and high-speed protocols (I2C, Redfish, IPMI, SPI, I3C, SVI2/SVI3, PCIe Gen5) and protocol analyzers.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior experience in datacenter or large-scale validation labs and knowledge of AMD-like platform architectures (CPU/APU, GPUs, memory, buses, display technologies).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Associate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred; Technical college degree with specialization in hardware deployment also noted as preferred.
