Principal Characterization Engineer - GaN
Role Summary
Lead the development and implementation of electrical test and characterization strategies for GaN power devices within the R&D organization. Drive test methodology, lab implementation and verification across wafer-level and product-level activities.
The role collaborates with device, product and application engineering to translate design and customer requirements into practical, manufacturable test solutions.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The position expects significant prior experience in device characterization, test engineering, and leadership of technical initiatives.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include owning test and characterization strategy and delivering practical test solutions for GaN products.
- Define and lead electrical verification strategy covering front-end, back-end and lab testing.
- Develop and implement wafer-level and product-level test methodologies for GaN devices.
- Design and propose test and characterization setups that balance technical requirements and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead characterization projects, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions from design through manufacturing.
- Collaborate with device, product and application teams to align test approaches with product development and customer needs.
Requirements
Key skills and experience required or strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with semiconductor characterization methods, specifically for GaN technology.
- Experience testing and characterizing high-voltage power semiconductor devices.
- Proven ability to develop test concepts focused on manufacturability and cost structure.
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience leading technical initiatives and teams.
- Good English communication skills (written and spoken); German is a plus.
- Familiarity with Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) is desirable but not required.
Education Requirements
Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Solid-State Physics, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience.
