Principal CAD Engineer - Electronic Design (Munich)
Role Summary
Development and production-support role focused on EDA/CAD design flows and tools for CMOS IC design, layout, and verification. Work involves evaluating, developing, improving, and debugging in-house and commercial EDA tools and flows.
Operate as a technical lead and subject-matter expert, guiding large projects, training end users, and collaborating closely with design and process teams; includes driving AI/LLM integration into CAD flows.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical leadership, CAD software development, and production support.
- Serve as subject-matter expert within CAD/EDA technical discipline.
- Define and lead large projects and provide technical guidance to team members and managers.
- Drive AI/LLM implementation and integration in CAD flows.
- Develop, assess, and implement CAD software engineering solutions; evaluate architecture and hardware constraints.
- Provide training, documentation, and first-/second-line support to end users of tools and methods.
- Collaborate closely with design and process teams to support IC development and tapeout flows.
- Maintain and improve production EDA flows, including debugging and performance optimization.
Requirements
Required and preferred technical skills, excluding education fields listed below.
- Must-have: Expertise with IC design CAD tools (schematics, layout, simulation, verification) and proven programming fundamentals.
- Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and effective communication ability.
- Preferred: SKILL and Python experience; recent proven experience in C or C++ and other scripting languages (Perl, Visual Basic, Lisp) will be considered.
- Experience with Unix and shell scripting.
- Familiarity with RTL-to-GDS flows and tools (examples: Fusion Compiler, Innovus, PrimeTime, Formality, RedHawk-SC, SpyGlass) is a plus.
- Experience with EDA flows for analog/digital verification, parasitic extraction, and design database/versioning systems.
- Experience applying AI/LLM technologies (Agentic AI, AI assistants) to engineering workflows is desirable.
Education Requirements
Coursework or experience in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), or Computer Science (CS), including VLSI circuit design and software. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable; no specific degree level was mandated in the posting.
