Job Title
Principal ASIC Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead physical design implementation for advanced-node ASICs and complex SoCs, focusing on timing closure, clock tree synthesis, mixed-signal macro integration, automation, and mentoring. Collaborate with engineering teams in Bengaluru and the US to deliver silicon-proven IP and tapeouts.
Hands-on technical role combining design execution, flow improvement, and cross-site coordination.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 10+ years of ASIC physical design experience at advanced nodes (10nm, 7nm, 6nm or below).
Responsibilities
Primary duties include implementation, timing closure, clock distribution, integration of hard macros, and automation.
- Implement and integrate physical design flows using Synopsys ICC2, PrimeTime, StarRC for advanced nodes.
- Drive timing closure for high-frequency designs (4GHz+): constraint management, analysis, and optimization.
- Design and optimize clock tree synthesis, skew balancing, and robust clock distribution for complex SoCs and IPs.
- Integrate mixed-signal hard macro IPs and resolve floorplan and interface challenges.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts in Tcl, Perl, or Python to streamline physical design flows.
- Mentor junior engineers, perform reviews, and participate in cross-site design reviews and troubleshooting.
- Support and improve methodologies for floorplanning, placement, routing, and power optimization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 10+ years of hands-on ASIC physical design experience at advanced process nodes (10nm, 7nm, 6nm or below).
- Proficiency with Synopsys ICC2, PrimeTime, StarRC, or equivalent industry tools.
- Proven success in timing closure for designs operating at or above 4GHz.
- Experience integrating HPC controller interface IPs and mixed-signal macros.
- Strong scripting skills in Tcl, Perl, or Python for automation.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills for complex design and integration issues.
- Effective communicator and mentor capable of cross-site collaboration.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field as stated in the posting.
