Principal ASIC Engineer (Mixed-Signal)
Voyant PhotonicsJob Title
Principal ASIC Engineer (Mixed-Signal)
Role Summary
Lead and establish Voyant's custom mixed-signal ASIC program. This hands-on role will architect the ASIC strategy, select tools and processes, deliver analog and mixed-signal silicon that interfaces with photonic ICs, and grow a small IC design team.
Initial work is primarily IC design (>80%); the role includes a clear path to technical leadership and team management as the organization scales.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 7+ years of relevant analog and mixed-signal IC design experience.
Responsibilities
The principal responsibilities include:
- Drive analog and mixed-signal tapeouts from concept through production across multiple technology nodes (including 130 nm and below, and BCD processes).
- Design ultra-low-noise transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) and other precision front-end analog circuits.
- Develop mixed-signal blocks (amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, bias and power-management circuits) that interface directly with photonic ICs.
- Establish the ASIC development environment: select EDA tools, define design flows, and set verification and validation standards.
- Collaborate with photonics designers, systems engineers, and FPGA/digital teams to ensure seamless co-design and integration.
- Provide HDL and architectural input to external digital design partners.
- Hire, mentor, and grow a small team of analog and digital IC designers.
- Define and oversee test plans for OSAT-level validation and manufacturability.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications:
- 7+ years in analog and mixed-signal IC design with an ~80/20 analog-to-digital focus.
- Proven track record leading multiple tapeouts from concept to production silicon.
- Deep expertise in low-noise analog circuit design, particularly TIAs or similar precision front-ends.
- Strong understanding of mixed-signal components: ADCs, DACs, bias circuits, and power management.
- Experience developing test plans and working with OSAT partners for analog ASIC validation.
- Experience interfacing analog designs with advanced-node digital design flows.
- Ability to deliver working silicon within a 9–12 month timeframe and strong cross-disciplinary communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with photonic IC co-design or interfacing analog circuits with optical components.
- Knowledge of advanced packaging techniques (chiplets, heterogeneous integration, 2.5D/3D) and design-for-manufacturability.
- Familiarity with commercial IP ecosystems, build-vs-buy tradeoffs, and license selection.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
