Job Title
Principal ASIC Design Engineer – Terawave
Role Summary
Lead the design and delivery of advanced ASICs for Blue Origin's TeraWave satellite communications program. The role owns digital architecture and hardware realization of key communication functions across ASICs and SoCs, working with design, verification, system, and RF teams from concept through silicon validation.
This position provides technical leadership, establishes reusable IP and methodology strategies, and mentors technical leads to meet product milestones for a next-generation global satellite communications network.
Experience Level
Senior — requires extensive experience (specified: 12+ years of ASIC design experience in source).
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities focus on architecture, implementation, program leadership, and cross-domain tradeoffs for satellite communication ASICs.
- Define top-level digital architecture for satellite communication ASICs and SoCs.
- Lead hardware realization of modem pipelines, digital beamforming, and other communication functions.
- Drive technical planning from concept through silicon validation and program delivery.
- Establish system-level tradeoffs among throughput, latency, and power.
- Provide technical leadership across design, verification, and system teams; mentor technical leads.
- Review architectural partitioning between ASIC, FPGA, software, and RF/analog domains.
- Develop methodologies and reusable IP strategies to improve project outcomes.
- Support critical design reviews, roadmap planning, and future product definition.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and relevant experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
-
Must-have: 12+ years of ASIC design experience with ownership of complex chips.
-
Must-have: Expert-level knowledge of digital design and microarchitecture.
-
Must-have: Proven success leading silicon programs and delivering tapes-out to validation.
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of communication signal-processing hardware and system-level tradeoffs.
-
Must-have: Ability to influence across organizations and communicate complex technical topics clearly.
-
Nice-to-have: Deep expertise in space-based communications, digital modems, advanced FEC architectures, and timing recovery.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with rad-hard and fault-tolerant design techniques.
-
Nice-to-have: Record of innovation such as patents or major product launches.
Education Requirements
