Job Title
Principal ASIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead ASIC design and delivery for Atom Computing's quantum hardware platforms. The role owns ASIC architecture, RTL, verification and silicon bring-up while coordinating cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to meet technical and schedule targets.
Experience Level
Senior β 10+ years post-degree experience in hardware engineering, with significant ASIC/SoC experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver ASIC subsystems from requirements through tapeout and bring-up; establish internal ASIC design processes and coordinate across teams and vendors.
- Participate in FPGA design and development to inform ASIC architectures and migration.
- Lead research on ASIC approaches to improve performance and density for future generations.
- Define and implement ASIC design processes covering architecture, RTL, verification, and tapeout.
- Perform hands-on ASIC work: microarchitecture, RTL development, testing, and integration.
- Manage schedules, vendor interfaces, and fabrication milestones with ASIC partners.
- Collaborate with quantum physicists and engineers to ensure hardware meets use-case requirements.
- Oversee product roadmap and subsystem delivery schedules for commercial and research projects.
Requirements
Core technical and practical requirements; items listed as "nice-to-have" indicate preferred but not mandatory qualifications.
Must-have:
- 10+ years of post-degree experience in hardware engineering in ASIC/SoC environments.
- Experience with 2 or more complete ASIC design cycles.
- Experience porting designs from FPGA prototypes to ASICs.
- Proficiency in RTL design (SystemVerilog preferred) and implementing large DSP blocks in RTL.
- Familiarity with EDA tool flows (Cadence, Synopsys, Siemens) and ASIC design nodes.
- Practical knowledge of FPGA capabilities, microprocessor and digital circuit design.
Nice-to-have:
- Mixed-signal design experience.
- Experience establishing internal ASIC design processes and tapeout coordination.
Education Requirements
