Principal ASIC Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join Micron's Interface Pathfinding team to lead digital micro-architecture and RTL implementation for high-speed memory and storage interface IP. The role drives block-level design from architecture through tape-out and ensures correct integration with analog/custom implementation teams.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 7–12 years of ASIC design experience, including at least one complete front-to-back tape-out.

Responsibilities

Lead and deliver block-level digital design and implementation for high-speed interface IP.

• Own micro-architecture and implement synthesizable SystemVerilog RTL for digital soft IP blocks.
• Define and document block-level architecture specifications and interface control documents.
• Coordinate chip partitioning and integration with analog/custom layout leads.
• Perform logic synthesis and drive optimization for performance, power, and area (PPA).
• Develop and maintain SDC constraints and perform static timing analysis.
• Self-verify RTL via block-level simulation and debug; write SystemVerilog Assertions for critical control sequences.
• Act as primary digital interface to layout and implementation teams; maintain ECO history and implementation guidance.
• Collaborate with verification engineers on verification plans and testbench coverage.

Requirements

Core technical skills and proven track record implementing ASIC digital blocks.

Must-have:

• Proficiency in synthesizable SystemVerilog RTL design and disciplined coding practices.
• Hands-on experience with logic synthesis and static timing analysis tools.
• Block-level RTL simulation and debug experience for self-verification.
• Practical understanding of CDC analysis methodologies.
• Ability to work effectively at the digital/analog interface and produce clear technical documentation.
• Experience completing at least one front-to-back tape-out.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to improve productivity in design workflows.

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity with tools such as Design Compiler or Genus; PrimeTime or Tempus; VCS or Xcelium; Verdi or DVE; SpyGlass or JasperGold CDC.

Education Requirements

BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
