Principal Applications Engineer
QorvoJob Title
Principal Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Serve as the technical liaison between US development teams (Application Engineers, RF Design Engineers) and application engineers abroad who work directly with customers and partners. Coordinate cross-site activities to shorten time-to-market for RF solutions and ensure customer requirements are reflected in product designs.
Work across RF technologies, components, systems and WiFi platforms; publish internal guidance, update measurement methods to match evolving standards, and mentor/train junior Application and Field Application Engineers. Hybrid: four days in the office, one day optional remote.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Professional). Minimum: 10+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor, radio communication, or related fields; specific hands-on RF experience of at least 5 years as described in Requirements.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical coordination, customer advocacy, documentation, and mentoring.
- Act as technical liaison between US development teams and field/application engineers abroad to align product development with customer needs.
- Capture and communicate customer feature requests and change requests to US engineering teams early in development.
- Publish internal documentation on customer standards, architecture choices, and measurement procedures.
- Update and standardize measurement and characterization techniques to match evolving RF communication standards.
- Mentor and train junior Application Engineers and Field Application Engineers on products, features and measurement methods.
- Standardize system-level characterization and create design support packages and training materials for field teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; items are presented as required unless noted as preferred.
- At least 10 years of experience in semiconductor, radio communication, or related fields, with significant RF hands-on work (see Education Requirements for degree details).
- Minimum ~5 years performing RF testing and debugging using signal generators, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes on evaluation and customer reference boards.
- Experience with RF circuit and filter design, impedance matching, and PCB schematic/layout tools.
- Practical knowledge of WiFi (IEEE 802.11) standards and digital pre-distortion (DPD) techniques.
- Experience validating platform-level performance: RF, throughput, and power consumption; creating datasheets, device revision guides, schematics, layout guides, hardware training, and validation reports.
- Tier-1 customer support experience: design reviews, RF tuning, feature training, debugging/root-cause analysis, regulatory certification support, and mass-production yield improvement.
- Familiarity with industry tools/processes referenced as QDART, QSPR, QRCT, QMINE (or equivalent diagnostic/quality tools) and WiFi board data file (BDF) tuning for TPC/DPD parameters.
- This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship by the Company.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering is specified. The posting requires 10+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor or radio communication fields and at least 5 years of the specific RF testing, design, and WiFi-related experience listed above.
