Principal Applications Engineer, 3DIC SI/PI
SynopsysJob Title
Principal Applications Engineer, 3DIC SI/PI
Role Summary
Customer-facing applications engineer focused on signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), and advanced packaging for 3D IC and heterogeneous integration designs. The role runs multi-physics simulations, troubleshoots customer designs, and translates field problems into product feedback.
Experience Level
Senior level. The posting lists a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in 3D IC and advanced packaging design or analysis.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include customer engagements, simulation work, technical support, and feeding product roadmaps with field insights.
- Engage with new and existing customers to understand SI/PI and advanced packaging challenges and demonstrate tool-based solutions in their design context.
- Run multi-physics simulations using tools such as HFSS, SIwave, Q3D, Ansys, or Clarity to validate performance and guide evaluations.
- Provide technical support: set up models, interpret results, and optimize customer workflows for 3D IC and advanced packaging designs.
- Collaborate with product management and R&D to relay customer insights and help prioritize feature development.
- Travel to customer sites roughly 25% of the time for onsite evaluations, training, and technical reviews.
- Build and deliver technical presentations, application notes, and proof-of-concept demonstrations tied to real customer scenarios.
- Monitor industry trends in SI, PI, and thermal analysis for advanced packaging and communicate relevant findings internally and externally.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, customer experience, and travel availability. Nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: Minimum 2 years hands-on experience in 3D IC and advanced packaging design or analysis.
- Must-have: Proficiency with at least one simulation tool (HFSS, SIwave, Q3D, Ansys, or Clarity) and ability to set up, run, and interpret multi-physics simulations.
- Must-have: Strong working knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity principles, including transmission-line effects, crosstalk, PDN analysis, and resonance.
- Must-have: Demonstrated ability to work directly with customers in evaluations, support, or training contexts; strong presentation and communication skills.
- Must-have: Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites approximately 25% of the time.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with thermal or electrothermal analysis to broaden the range of customer problems you can address.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field (as stated in the posting).
