Principal Application Engineer, VC Formal
Role Summary
Lead deployment and support of VC Formal solutions for Synopsys customers, focusing on formal property checking, proof closure, and performance optimization. Work on-site with engineering teams to assess verification environments, recommend formal methodologies, and translate customer needs into product improvements.
Experience Level
Senior-level - typically 10 to 15 years of hands-on experience in digital design verification and formal verification methodologies.
Responsibilities
Deliver technical consulting, deployment, and training to customer teams and collaborate with product engineering to improve tools and workflows.
- Lead technical deployment of VC Formal at customer sites and assess verification environments.
- Identify targets for property checking, sequential equivalence checking, formal coverage, and connectivity checks.
- Diagnose root causes of tool performance issues (state space explosion, convergence) and optimize test benches to achieve proofs.
- Develop and deliver technical training and best-practice guidance to customer teams.
- Work with Synopsys R&D and product teams to communicate customer priorities and influence the roadmap.
- Support formal verification of complex logic such as datapaths, math functions, and equivalence across revisions.

Must-have:
- 10–15 years of hands-on experience in digital design verification with deep expertise in formal verification methodologies.
- Strong application knowledge of formal property checking, sequential equivalence checking, formal coverage analysis, and connectivity checking.
- Proven experience diagnosing and resolving formal tool performance issues, including convergence and proof optimization.
- Solid understanding of RTL design, SystemVerilog, and verification test bench development.
- Experience in customer-facing technical consulting, application engineering, or field engineering roles.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with VC Formal or equivalent formal verification tools.
- Ability to present to senior engineering leadership and manage multiple customer engagements.
