Principal Application Engineer - Timing Sign Off
Role Summary
Senior applications engineer responsible for supporting customer tapeouts and deploying timing signoff solutions using Synopsys signoff tools. Work is technical and customer-facing, focused on diagnosing timing, power, and signoff issues and integrating signoff features into customer methodologies.
Member of the Silicon Design and Signoff Applications Engineering team; collaborates with product engineering, account teams, and customer design teams to resolve critical signoff problems and influence product roadmap.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 10+ years of hands-on experience in timing analysis and signoff or equivalent industry experience.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership for customer signoff activities and for adoption of new signoff capabilities.
- Support customer tapeouts by diagnosing timing, power, and signoff issues under schedule pressure using PrimeTime and related signoff tools.
- Deploy and integrate new signoff features with customers, including beta testing and methodology integration.
- Translate customer requirements into actionable enhancement requests for product development, with use cases and data.
- Create and deliver technical training, demos, and methodology documentation for customers and internal teams.
- Replicate, debug, and escalate product issues across engineering, R&D, and account teams to resolve schedule-impacting problems.
- Mentor applications engineers and customer design teams on timing signoff best practices and flow optimization.
- Align technical enablement with account strategy to provide appropriate support at critical stages of the design cycle.
Requirements

- 10+ years of hands-on experience with timing analysis and signoff tools, flows, and methodologies in customer-facing or product roles.
- Deep working knowledge of PrimeTime and direct experience with at least two of: PrimeShield, PrimeClosure, PrimePower.
- Proven ability to debug complex signoff issues under tapeout pressure and propose pragmatic solutions balancing accuracy and runtime.
- Strong understanding of static timing analysis fundamentals: multi-mode multi-corner, OCV/AOCV, path-based analysis, and closure techniques.
- Proven ability to work effectively across global teams and time zones with product engineering and account teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; able to present technical concepts to senior engineers and create concise documentation.
- Demonstrated mentoring or leadership experience in applications or methodology roles.
- Nice-to-have: experience with StarRC, RedHawk-SC, Spice/Hspice, PrimeSim, or adjacent verification tools.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
