Principal Application Engineer, Semiconductor
Role Summary
Provide application engineering and technical support for optoelectronic and photonic products. The role supports product integration, troubleshooting, new product introductions, and customer deployments by working closely with customers and internal design, manufacturing, quality, and product teams.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 5+ years of relevant experience in optoelectronics/photonics and applications engineering.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
- Provide technical support for optoelectronic and photonic products.
- Work directly with customers to support product integration and resolve technical issues.
- Troubleshoot complex device- and application-level problems.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and product teams.
- Support new product introductions and customer deployments.
- Analyze customer test data and performance trends.
- Visit customer sites for hands-on technical support and relationship management.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills:
- Strong understanding of photonic/optoelectronic devices and RF fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with photonic product testing and troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple technical priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel for customer support activities.
- Experience in applications engineering or related technical support roles and working with cross-functional/global teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with laser diodes and photodetectors.
- Experience supporting new product introductions or large customer deployments.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
