Principal Application Engineer — Digital Implementation & Physical Design
Role Summary
Lead customer engagements to drive adoption of Cadence digital implementation, physical design, and static verification tools. Combine hands-on physical design expertise with technical leadership to help customers achieve target performance, power, and area on advanced process nodes.
Work with customer design teams, Cadence R&D, and Product Engineering to influence methodologies, develop flows, and ensure successful project execution and tapeouts.
Experience Level
Senior — requires substantial hands-on experience. The posting requests 7+ years of physical design and verification experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical customer support, methodology development, and hands-on implementation work.
- Drive adoption and deployment of digital implementation and physical design tools at customer sites.
- Perform/lead floorplanning, power grid design, placement and routing, clock tree synthesis, and timing closure.
- Develop and validate physical design methodologies and flows for advanced nodes.
- Collaborate with RTL design teams and R&D to resolve implementation issues and ensure successful tapeouts.
- Provide technical guidance on low-power and high-speed design techniques.
- Serve as the technical owner on customer projects and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful candidates.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in physical design and verification, including work on 7 nm and below process nodes.
- Proven experience with ASIC design flow and hierarchical physical design strategies.
- Deep understanding of deep sub-micron technology issues and timing closure practices.
- Strong knowledge of low-power design techniques and methodologies.
- Ability to work independently, assume responsibility for technical tasks, and lead technical engagements.
- Good written and verbal English communication skills and ability to work in a team.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience influencing tool methodology and collaborating with product engineering or R&D teams.
- Previous involvement in tapeout activities across multiple challenging designs (low-power/high-speed).
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (BS/MS in EE/CS) as stated in the posting.
