Principal Application Engineer

Role Summary

Senior technical role in BG IC Solutions based at Nexperia headquarters in Nijmegen. Acts as the system-level interface between product development and Tier‑1 global customers for next‑generation signal chain solutions.

Responsible for defining validation strategy, supporting design‑in activities, developing evaluation platforms and reference designs, and serving as the technical point of contact for portfolio products.

Experience Level

Senior — requires approximately 8–10 years of experience in application engineering, system design, or IC validation.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include technical customer support, system validation, and enabling product adoption.

• Define system‑level validation requirements and strategies for signal‑chain products.
• Provide expert technical support and resolve complex issues for Tier‑1 customers.
• Translate market and customer needs into detailed technical specifications.
• Benchmark competitor solutions and define performance targets.
• Support design‑in activities with customers, FAEs, and sales teams.
• Design and develop evaluation boards, reference platforms, and reference designs.
• Participate in silicon validation to identify edge cases and performance limits.
• Review datasheets and ensure system alignment and accuracy.
• Create application notes, technical documentation, and deliver technical training.
• Support product demonstrations, industry events, and development of technical collateral.

Requirements

Must‑have technical skills, domain experience, and leadership capability. Nice‑to‑have items noted.

• 8–10 years' experience in application engineering, system design, or IC validation.
• Strong expertise in analog hardware and interface/voltage translator devices.
• Experience in semiconductor product development within Automotive, Industrial, or Consumer domains.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Knowledge of high‑speed board design, signal integrity, and transmission line behavior; hands‑on experience with PCB design tools and laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, analyzers).
• Experience with silicon validation under extreme and boundary conditions.
• Proficiency with circuit simulation tools such as ADS or SPICE.
• Familiarity with communication interfaces (I2C, I3C, SPI).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear technical documentation.
• Nice‑to‑have: scripting or automation experience (Python, LabVIEW) for test and validation workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (as stated). Not listed: an explicit equivalent‑experience clause.
