Job Title

Principal Analog Mixed-Signal Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver analog and mixed-signal IP for high-speed optical transceivers and PHYs as an early member of Marvell's San Diego design organization. Work from circuit architecture through verification, lab characterization and production handoff, collaborating with layout, verification and applications teams.

Contribute to the technical foundation of a new regional design team focused on high-speed communications.

Experience Level

Senior — typically PhD +8 years or MS +10 years of relevant analog/mixed-signal design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include circuit architecture, design, verification, and delivery of analog IP to production.

  • Architect, design and simulate analog/mixed-signal circuits (PLLs, DLLs, ADCs, DACs, regulators, amplifiers, TX/RX, CDRs, filters).
  • Perform design verification and behavioral modeling using SPICE/Spectre, MATLAB and similar tools.
  • Collaborate with layout, verification, test and applications teams to meet performance and production goals.
  • Develop test plans and perform lab characterization of prototypes to verify specifications.
  • Establish and document best practices and design-for-manufacturability for analog IP.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and expectations:

  • Proven hands-on experience designing mixed-signal circuits: ADCs, DACs, RX/TX, PLLs, CDRs, filters, bandgap/bias circuits, and regulators.
  • Deep knowledge of deep sub-micron CMOS processes and high-speed, low-power analog design techniques.
  • Proficiency with IC CAD and simulation tools such as Spectre, SPICE, MATLAB, HSim and RTL/scripting tools (e.g., Verilog where applicable).
  • Practical lab test and prototype evaluation skills to validate designs against specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to apply innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • Ability to work in an early-stage team and influence technical direction and practices.
  • Must be eligible to access export-controlled technology; employment may require export license review.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with optical PHYs, high-speed transceivers and delivering analog IP into production for communications applications.

Education Requirements

MS in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of related experience, or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of related experience. Degrees in Electrical Engineering or closely related technical fields are preferred.
