Principal Analog/Mixed-Signal CAD Engineer
Role Summary
Principal engineer on Marvell's Central Engineering CAD team responsible for architecting and maintaining analog and mixed-signal design automation for advanced CMOS FinFET and BiCMOS technologies. The role partners with analog/MEMS/photonics designers, foundries, EDA vendors, and modeling teams to improve simulation accuracy and engineering productivity.
Position is based in the Santa Clara office and requires onsite presence five days per week.
Experience Level
Senior (Principal) - typically 10+ years of relevant industry experience in analog/mixed-signal CAD, simulation, or related roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include maintaining CAD infrastructure, improving simulation fidelity, and enabling design productivity across analog, RF, and photonics projects.
- Architect, deploy, and maintain AMS simulation environments for advanced FinFET and BiCMOS process technologies.
- Develop and support automated analog/mixed-signal design flows used across multiple product teams.
- Troubleshoot complex simulation and design-flow issues with designers, EDA vendors, and foundries.
- Collaborate with device modeling and TCAD teams to improve model accuracy and circuit-level behavior.
- Evaluate and benchmark new EDA tools and methodologies for simulation performance and productivity.
- Define and implement custom circuit verification checks and model QA flows.
- Develop automation and productivity tools for simulation, verification, and data analysis.
- Drive CAD best practices and infrastructure improvements for analog, mixed-signal, and silicon photonics development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven experience building and maintaining analog/mixed-signal design flows for advanced FinFET process technologies.
- Hands-on experience with industry-standard AMS simulation tools such as Cadence ADE/AMS Designer, Spectre, Synopsys PrimeSim, and AFS or equivalents.
- Practical knowledge of schematic capture, simulation, parasitic extraction, and post-layout verification for AMS designs.
- Strong understanding of device modeling and high-speed analog/RF simulation behavior; experience debugging complex AMS simulation and modeling issues.
- Experience developing automation or productivity scripts/tools to streamline simulation, verification, and data analysis.
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Experience with Cadence Virtuoso Schematic Editor, PDK integration, CDF customization, and netlisting infrastructure.
- Programming or scripting experience in Python, TCL, Perl, or SKILL.
- Experience developing custom CAD automation or verification frameworks and familiarity with silicon photonics design flows.
Education Requirements
BSEE with 10–15 years of professional experience, or MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering with 5–10 years of industry experience. Degree focus: Electrical Engineering or closely related technical field.
