Job Title

Precision Machine Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and prototype precision mechatronic and motion systems used in semiconductor inspection and metrology tools. Work within Central Engineering's multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-performance linear and rotary motion subsystems across product programs.

This role involves modeling, FEA, hands-on prototyping, testing, and data analysis to support production-ready designs.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience expectation: approximately 3–5+ years of relevant engineering experience depending on prior degree; senior-level capability in precision mechanical design and motion systems is required.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include design, analysis, and delivery of precision mechanical subsystems:

  • Model, design, and prototype high-performance linear and rotary motion systems.
  • Develop, build, and test precision mechatronics subsystems and prototypes.
  • Use analytical and numerical methods, including finite element analysis, for design decisions.
  • Conduct concept generation and trade-off studies to balance technical requirements and customer needs.
  • Perform data analysis and visualization to support design validation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in hands-on lab work; travel up to ~20% as needed.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Proven experience with high-precision mechanical hardware and precision machine design or motion control.
  • Experience performing finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, LabVIEW, and Python for analysis and visualization.
  • Experience with CAD and mechanical design practices.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and prototyping skills; effective collaboration in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to grow knowledge in vibrations, controls, and electromagnetics.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% when required.

Education Requirements

Doctorate, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). Minimum experience guidance provided by employer: PhD accepted with 0 years, Master’s with ~3 years, Bachelor’s with ~5 years of related experience; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
